Cultural
issues are important to consider in any health care setting.
Rural health is no exception; in fact cultural issues may even be a
more important issue when considering cultural health.
In Texas, many rural areas are comprised of several cultures,
predominately Mexican American and White.
Differences in cultural ideals create situations where medicine may
need to be approached somewhat differently depending on what culture the
patient represents, hence knowledge of these cultures is paramount.
With
this in mind, the resources that were chosen to be posted on this Rural
Resource website were selected using knowledge of barriers and cultural
differences with respect to a Public Health and Medical background.
Several search engines and meta search engines were utilized to
find resources for cultural issues that would be pertinent to a Rural
Health setting. These
resources include demographic information, differences in outlook upon
medicine by different cultures, and articles related to methods used by
other areas in the country and world to deal with cultural issues in rural
health. Most of the resources
are dynamic, meaning they update themselves, so the links to them will not
become outdated.
