Economic Statistic and Research Resources for Rural Health Development are selected  in order to help rural hospital administrators and community decision-makers quickly gain access to relevant national, state and substate economic data as well as the recent research and publication. This toolkit aims to be convenient, comprehensive and reliable stop for the users. Most data selected for this collection are from Government, academic economic and statistic websites, and  the commercial website with high credibility.

National

  • National Population Estimates
    US Census Bureau. Provides monthly, quarterly and annually national population estimation by age, sex, race, and Hispanic origin for the United States. These estimates cover four different populations: resident population, resident population plus Armed Forces overseas, civilian population, and civilian noninstitutional population.

  • 1997 Economic Census: Health Care and Social Assistance - Geographic Area Series.
    US Census Bureau. The Health Care and Social Assistance sector (sector 62) of the 1997 Economic Census provides the summary statistics data for establishments of firms subject to Federal income tax and separately of firms which are exempt form Federal income tax under provisions of the Internal Revenue Code. Here includes separate report for each state, District of Columbia, and the United States.

    US Census Bureau. Provides annually estimated counties' total population by age, sex, race, and Hispanic origin. The release of total population estimates in the winter also includes demographic components of change. In the summer, the Program releases the estimates by age, sex, race, and Hispanic origin.

  • U.S. County Economic Typologies
    Economic Research Service. This typology classifies rural counties based on primary economic activity. The six nonoverlapping types are :farming-dependent, mining-dependent, manufacturing dependent, government-dependent, services-dependent, and nonspecialized. Also, rural counties are classified based on five overlapping policy types: retirement-destination, Federal lands, commuting, persistent poverty, and transfer-dependent.
